Summer comes to a close with lots of 'firsts'

With summer coming to a close, this week, the Bergie Bunch took advantage of time off together, fabulous weather and many of us experienced some 'firsts'.

With me not starting my new job for two weeks, I am relishing in my time off with the kids. I have never, except for maternity leave, had this much time home. So far, I love it. Ask me again next week I might say something different. :)
But with my time off, we've been able to just enjoy summer. No worries. Twice this week, we went swimming for a few hours.

9 years ago this little lick-a-holic, snuggle bug was born. We sure love our Oscar Miller, and he loved his new birthday toy and treats. On his birthday, we received an email from the vet that identified Oscie as a senior. So weird to think of him as a senior citizen. ;) The little guy still loves to play!

We enjoyed time with another senior. She still likes to play too.

The saddest part of our week? Saying 'see you later' to Haley. Since Paisley was an infant, Haley has been watching our kids. This week, she left for college. I cannot explain how incredibly lucky we feel to have had Haley watch our children each summer. She has been an amazing influence in the lives of P, H, M & E, and the kids always have so much fun with her. XOXO, Hales...see you soon!

On a third night of swimming, this time at the Lokken's, Everleigh had a first...tubing!!
She was scared to death. And we forced her to do it, like any good parent would. :)

Because we knew...she would love it.

Paisley had a big first too. She tried to ski! Unfortunately, after a failed attempt, too long of a hold on to the rope, and a little water in her face, this was her only attempt. But...since then, she's asked to try again.

The big girls also got some good tubing time in.

Ev drove with Uncle Cal...

And Madden gave me the 'I'm all Berg' face.

Another first for the kids this week....the Drive-In! We loaded up and went to see Despicable Me 2 at the Drive-In. Let me just say that this movie started an hour after their normal bed time. Yikes. But it's summer...I'm off of work...and yah, you just have to stay up late once and a while. (The sucky part, is that we have to deal with the over-tired, crabbiness that come with the late night fun!) Either way, it was worth it.
We piled our blankies and pillows in the back of the van and filled our pie holes with popcorn and skittles. It was great!

This weekend, Craig had his fantasy football draft (golfing, drafting, drinking, going to bars we went to when we were 21...you know...) so I took the kids up north to my Grandma's house for their townie festival.

Almost our entire family was there, it was super fun. And who doesn't love playing in a caboose?

My mom grew up in this small town. Like, really small. But what's so fun is that you know everybody. And it's just SO laid back there. Plus, you can walk down the middle of the road. At least I think that's fun.
I love this picture for some reason. It just captures the essence of the small town feel.

And who doesn't love a parade that's 95% full of tractors? (ahem!) Ah, who cares when they throw candy!

We were hoping to get a picture of my kids, and my cousin's two. As you can see, only one of hers would cooperate. Which is totally fine, I know the feeing. I guess this is what my family would look like if baby Michael were a part of the Bergie Bunch. He does just fit right in...

No offence, Michael...but...I think 4 is all we can handle. :)

Lucky for us, another first....a FARM. My cousin Olivia and her husband invited us to their family farm. Sadly enough, our children had never been to a farm, or seen cows this close. Madden was SO beyond excited to go. He has literally been asking me to go to their farm since about April.

When we got there, poor Madden's anxiety kicked in. And he was scared to death. Of everything. Like even the milk house, where there wasn't an animal near. He screamed and clung to me for dear life. I felt so bad. And the second we got back in the van to head home, he said, "Mom, next time I won't be scared, okay?! Can we read a book about farms? Can we watch a DVD about farms? Mom? When can we go back to the farm so I not be scared?"
Breaks my heart that he struggles with anxiety like that. He was the one looking so forward to it. Sigh. Maybe next time.

So....yes Madden was with us, but you will not see him in any of our "yay, our first farm experience" pictures.

Paisley got up close with this little calf. She was sucking on her whole hand. And Paisley was giggling so hard. It was adorable.

Olivia and Jaclyn showed us all around. In the tractors, the milk house, what the cows eat, where they milk...

I love this picture. It's like Jaclyn is telling Paisley all about what her daddy does...

We checked out the chickens too. And score! 3 eggs!

We're looking forward to visiting the farm again. It was really peaceful out there. Country living is not in my blood. But I do like to visit.

And last, but not least. A first for Miss P as her big day is almost here....
Her first mani/pedi! We took an afternoon to get this school-ager beautified for her first day of Kindergarten. She got her hair cut (just a trim, for now), and her nails done. Ahhh....

And so, the firsts will continue this week, as on Wednesday, Paisley heads off to school. I am so excited for her, and I also have the worlds largest lump in my throat. It's a day we'll both remember forever.
So...check back next week to see how it all went!

XOXO,
Brook

Hey I painted that caboose in high school, you don't even want to know the gross stuff we found in there either I'm glad they are keeping it up! Also I will never forget your first day of school, your Mom followed the bus right up to the door of the school then she stopped at my house ( across the street) she was still sniffling.
