But first, Miss P was SO brave-- and Tuesday morning, 1/11/11...we went to the hospital bright and early in the morning. She was such a good listener, and did everything the doctors told her to do. Actually, on the ride to the hospital she was chanting in the back seat, "My gonna get my tonsils out! My gonna get my tonsils out!" Poor thing had no idea what was about to happen!
We were in the pre-op room for quite a while. The doc's were running behind, imagine that. So Paisley got some stickers, coloring books, and watched cartoons while she waited. They came in to give her some "relaxation" medication about 15 minutes before surgery-- it didn't phase her one bit.
Then....it was time. Only one of us could go back to the operating room with Paisley, so I was it! Miss P thought it was pretty cool that we had matching hats. I'm sure you can guess how I felt about what I had to wear. BUT, anything for my baby!!
I walked back to the operating room with Paisley. They put a mask over her mouth and asked her to make the balloon move up and down by taking deep breaths. Pretty soon, she looked at me, eyes glazed over....and that's when they said...Go Now! So....I did. She was in good hands. Nonetheless, it was SO hard to see her lying there....what I wouldn't give to be in her place instead!
Craig and I waited for about 45 minutes, and our pager went off. We jumped up so fast to get to that doctor! He assured us that everything went just as planned-- however, that Paisley had the largest tonsils he had ever seen. Yes, that's what he said! He said that he also removed her adenoids, and they were big as well...and that he is confident that her breathing will significantly improve now that she actually has room for air to move through there!
We had to wait about another 15 minutes until they wheeled her back into recovery. She was crying...scared...in pain....she was everything you hate to see! Craig gave her a new monkey that he snagged in the gift shop (even though she had lots of gifts waiting at home!) and we gave her lots of hugs. She was REALLY mad about having an IV in, and that sucker was taped on there so well I have a strong inclination that she tried to remove the pesty thing herself.
She asked for a popsicle right away, but it was so hard for her to eat it. She kept falling asleep....then gagging on her own phlegm....we were sure she was about to puke at any minute....
She had a few more bites of her popsicle....and then she was out.
We stayed in recovery for about 2 hours. Once she took a little nap and finished some water and a whole popsicle, we headed for home. The rest....is history. History that I would like to never, ever repeat. Everyone says that the younger the kids are, the better. Which, is probably true. However, our little miss P was in a lot of pain. More than I thought she would be. And then....she refused the medicine. She was prescribed Tylenol with Codeine...and she wasn't havin' it. She also has to take an antibiotic 3x day for 10 days. We've held her down, we've mixed it with ice cream and yogurt and milk and juice....and still, 3 times a day we have a fight over taking this medicine. 4 days left, 4 days left!
With sickness everywhere....we did a lot of rocking this week. And even when one of us couldn't rock Madden......he wanted to sit in the chair and rock alone! So, we had Hudders join him....
So, it's day 5 1/2...she's doing "better", as she says. I can see that she's healing up. She's been so whiny-- she slept with us for 3 days....and now I just get up 55 time a night with her. Last night she first wanted to be held, then she wanted to tuck ME in, then she wanted to tell me her hair was in her eyes.....all while crying, and waking the boys up. Her breath has been unlike anything I have ever smelt in my life. I have spent lots of time snuggling my baby girl...while holding my own breath! We brush and brush....and they warned us about this, but whew...I will be excited when she doesn't knock us down when she talks to us!
I'm hoping we are on the upswing-- poor baby. I feel so bad for her. Luckily, she will never remember how this feels. But I can tell you, I won't forget!!
In addition...all of the kids are sick. Therefore, on top of her tonsillectomy pain, she has a fever of 102.6 !!
Anyway-- Hudson and Madden have not been forgotten this week. In fact.....they've been sick with fevers and coughs galore. However, that doesn't stop Mr. Madden from digging in the garbage and eating old food.....or coffee grounds. Stinker!

And then the girls joined in....
Tomorrow will be a first for the Berg's......as we have to miss work because of sick kids. That's right. We have made it over 3 years without missing work because of sick wee ones. Unfortunately, this week is critical for me at work....so Craig will come home early from work so that I can make it to a meeting. And so this is life.
We're hoping that the kids get well soon....it's so sad to look at this all day...
60. Yes, 60 Air Heads. I've had a little help from the husband, but the box is quickly becoming empty. And also, thank you, Michelle...who heard my cry for this candy, and got me the perfect size package for work!!
I've had somebody literally attached to me at all times since her surgery. But here is a somewhat "belly" picture at 18 weeks.
Madden is a walking machine. Hudson is more comfortable crawling, but will walk some of the time. Paisley is suddenly into the Packers...which by the way, how awesome was that?!?!?! Hudson is obsessed with laying on pillows. Madden is obsessed with rocking. Hudson's few favorite thing is to toss his food, plate and cup off of his tray while eating. Madden can say "ball"...we think! And one last cute, Paisleyism. -- As she was tucking Craig in last night and is about to shut the door she says, "Daddy, don't let the sugar bugs get your teeth!"
BABY UPDATE: 19 Weeks!
BABY UPDATE: 19 Weeks!
Our little number four is growing like a weed! In fact, he/she can even hear my voice now! I continue to feel him/her move...when I am still...which isn't often. I believe baby is now about 5-6 inches long already! However, we know how "long" the Berg kids are...so it's probably more like 4-5. :)
I've been feeling okay. My leg pain is starting up, full force again. It's terrible during pregnancy...maybe next time I go in I can get a little something to help subside the pain. But overall, feeling good!
And most of all.....I am fulfilling my craving!!
